We are committed to meeting the needs of people with disabilities in a timely manner, and will do so by preventing, identifying and removing barriers to accessibility. We are committed to shaping our services and information in accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation (IASR). 

Accessibility Advisory Committee

The Accessibility Advisory Committee (AAC) at Ontario Northland provides a forum for consultation and collaboration on initiatives relative to improving accessibility for persons with disabilities whether they be passengers, employees, visitors, or other members of the general public.

The AAC discusses and provides input on how to identify, remove, and prevent barriers for people with disabilities. The committee supports the development and implementation of Ontario Northland's Multi-Year Accessibility Plan and is also consulted on various Ontario Northland projects and policies. We encourage membership from the various areas we serve, and from diverse communities and experiences.

Qualifications and experience we look for in committee members:

  • Have a strong understanding of the needs and perspectives of a wide range of people with disabilities and seniors, gained through personal or professional experience.
  • Have an interest in promoting equity and inclusion for people with disabilities and seniors in accessing transit services.
  • Have knowledge of accessibility as it relates to one or more areas of: policy and procedures, service planning and delivery, legislation standards, employment, build environment and public spaces, and accommodations.
  • Have good communication skills, demonstrate initiative, and have a positive attitude.

Travel for Passengers with Disabilities

Ontario Northland is proud to provide accessible bus and rail services. We accommodate most wheeled mobility devices on our services and passengers can travel with service animals.

It is important to note that not all third-party agency partners who provide passenger pick up and drop off are accessible. Ontario Northland aims to have as many accessible stops as possible, but some remote locations make this challenging. If you have specialized travel needs or want to discuss an accessibly at one of our agency locations, connect directly with one of our ticket agents at passengercare@ontarionorthland.ca or 1-800-461-8558.
