Rail Safety

At Ontario Northland, safety is a core value that drives every aspect of our operations. We believe in setting the highest safety standards, to ensure our employees and our customers are always protected. We don’t compromise when it comes to safety, because the well-being of our people and the communities we serve is paramount.

Be Rail Smart: Tips for Staying Safe

  • Remember: Ignoring rail signs, taking shortcuts, or using tracks for recreation can be deadly.
  • Stop a safe distance from tracks and crossings.
  • Look both ways to ensure no trains are approaching.
  • Listen for the sound of an oncoming train.
  • Always stay off the tracks, be aware of your surroundings and maintain a safe distance.

At Ontario Northland, we believe in looking out for one another, and we encourage everyone to do the same in their communities.

Education is key to preventing railway crossing and trespassing incidents. By raising awareness about the dangers surrounding railway property and trains, we aim to prevent accidents that can lead to serious injuries or even death—because at Ontario Northland, we believe that even one incident is one too many.
