Stations and Shelters
The Northlander passenger train will service the corridor between Toronto and Timmins, with a rail connection to Cochrane. With 16 stops along the route, passengers can board the train at Ontario Northland stations in Timmins, North Bay, Cochrane and Englehart and at existing transit hubs in Gormley, Langstaff and Union Station. They will also enjoy modern, glass shelters at the remaining nine of the stop locations.
Timmins Porcupine Station
Ontario Northland is prioritizing safety, accessibility and convenience in the new Timmins-Porcupine station. The station will serve as a waiting area for passengers of the Northlander, Motor Coach services and Bus Parcel Express. It will feature a ticketing booth, a new rail platform, motor coach bays and accessible washrooms for customers. The outdoor area will have parking, pedestrian pathways, a taxi stand and a designated passenger pickup and drop-off area.
With design and engineering already underway, construction on the Timmins-Porcupine Station is set to begin in 2025.
Northlander Stops and Shelters
Ontario Northland will install nine shelters along the Northlander route, including Matheson, Kirkland Lake (Swastika), Temiskaming Shores (New Liskeard), Temagami, South River, Huntsville, Bracebridge, Gravenhurst and Washago.
Shelters will provide passengers with a safe, accessible space to wait for the train. The shelters will be equipped with ample lighting, real-time train arrival updates, CCTV security cameras and Wi-Fi access, offering a consistent, modern experience for passengers travelling along the corridor.
Ontario Northland understands that providing a safe, accessible and reliable experience starts the moment our customers step onto the platform.
That is why construction has started at Northlander stop locations, north of North Bay.
Construction at the stops will lead to enhancements to station platforms, parking areas and pathways to ensure accessibility for all passengers. The construction will also include adding lighting, CCTV and instal new amenities such as bike racks, Wi-Fi and wayfinding signage.
In 2025, work will continue for the remaining stop locations including South River, Gravenhurst, Bracebridge and Huntsville.
North Bay, Englehart and Cochrane Stations
Ontario Northland currently owns three existing stations in North Bay, Englehart and Cochrane. These facilities are currently undergoing accessibility upgrades and platform improvements to prepare for the future service. These stations, which will be equipped with spacious seating areas and washrooms, will serve as warm, welcoming environments for passengers waiting for the train and connecting to other transit.
These locations will also provide ticketing information and purchase options for passengers, as well as connections to Ontario Northland Motor Coach services and Bus Parcel Express services.
