Every summer Ontario Northland undertakes critical infrastructure work along the railway to ensure we meet industry safety standards and continue to provide safe, reliable and efficient transportation services to communities and businesses in the North.
Our top priority is to mitigate disruptions to communities and businesses as much as possible as this work is completed.

Track Programs
Ontario Northland's advanced evaluation car improves the precision and efficiency of rail maintenance operations. This cutting-edge vehicle is designed to meticulously inspect tracks, ensuring they meet stringent safety standards. Equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic tools, the evaluation car can detect minute irregularities and potential issues that might otherwise go unnoticed.
Signals and Crossings
Signals and railway crossings are essential components for ensuring the safety of both the community and the rail network. By using advanced warning systems at crossings, Ontario Northland helps to prevent accidents and ensures that trains, vehicles, and pedestrians can navigate safely and efficiently across the region.
Bridges and Culverts
Maintaining and repairing bridges and culverts is a major part of keeping Ontario Northland’s railways safe.
This work includes refacing concrete abutments and piers, swapping steel bearings and various steel repairs on the superstructure of these bridges.
