A Free Event for the Whole Family
To celebrate how northern Ontario was developed as a result of railroading and to relive some of the recreational pursuits of railroad workers and their families over 100 years ago, Ontario Northland will be hosting its 3rd Spike Driving Competition on June 16th in Englehart, ON.
Lots of activities for the entire family! See strong railroaders go head to head to drive 3 spikes into a single tie plate!
New this year are team relays! Watch amateurs give it all they got and work together. Teams of four will compete against each other to win top prize!
Who can forget the kids – who will compete against each other to drive a nail in the fastest time possible.
There will be a chip stand, kids zone full of activities, music and a chance to spend some time together as an Ontario Northland family while cheering on Spike Driving competitors.
The Professional Spike Driving Competition requires skill, concentration and muscle to drive metal spikes into a square metal plate on a railroad tie. This is a timed event – two heats with the average of the two being the official time.
