Every summer Ontario Northland undertakes critical infrastructure work along the railway to ensure we meet industry safety standards and continue to provide safe, reliable and efficient transportation services to communities and businesses in the North.

Our top priority is to mitigate disruptions to communities and businesses as much as possible as this work is completed.

Echo Lake - Highway 11 WHAT: Bridge Work. Scope of work includes slip line of existing concrete arch culvert.
WHY: Management of safe passage of all rail traffic. (equipment, freight and passenger)
ANTICIPATED COMMUNITY IMPACT: Potential noise disruption to any household with vicinity of 100 meters, no overnight work, no impact to road traffic
Matheson - Vimy Ridge WHAT: CulvertWork. Scope of work includes slip line of existing concrete arch culvert.
WHY: Management of safe passage of all rail traffic. (equipment, freight and passenger)
ANTICIPATED COMMUNITY IMPACT: Some noise disruption to any household with vicinity of 100 meters, no overnight work, no impact to road traffic

Ramore Sub Division WHAT: Continuous Welded Rail
WHY: In order to ensure safe and efficient rail service, ONTC performs an annual rail and tie upgrading program.

Cochrane WHAT: Ties

Kapuskasing River WHAT: Bridge Work. Scope of work includes refacing of concrete abutments and piers, steel bearing replacement and various steel repairs on superstructure. Some in-water work chipping concrete and refacing concrete abutments and piers.

ANTICIPATED COMMUNITY IMPACT: Minimal noise disruption
Cheepas River WHAT: Bridge Work. Scope of work includes refacing of concrete abutments and piers, steel bearing replacement and various steel repairs on superstructure. Some in-water work chipping concrete and refacing concrete abutments and piers.

Porquis WHAT: Scrap Tie Disposal/ Northlander Project
WHY: In order to ensure a safe and reliable passenger train, ONTC is implementing a scrap tie disposal program. This program will clean up the right of way by picking up scrap ties, loading them up on rail cars, then unloading them in specific areas for trucks to load.
ANTICIPATED COMMUNITY IMPACT: Scrap tie piles located close to the right of way.
Temagami WHAT: Scrap Tie Disposal/ Northlander Project
WHY: In order to ensure a safe and reliable passenger train, ONTC is implementing a scrap tie disposal program. This program will clean up the right of way by picking up scrap ties, loading them up on rail cars, then unloading them in specific areas for trucks to load.

All communities along Temagami Subdivision (North Bay to Englehart) WHAT: Joint Elimination Program/ Northlander Project
WHY: In order to ensure a safe and efficient passenger train service, ONTC is implementing a joint elimination program. This program will start in North Bay in April 2024, working northward. The anticipated end date for 2024 is in December in Englehart.
ANTICIPATED COMMUNITY IMPACT: Evening and overnight work, loud equipment, working on track.
Temiskaming Shores WHAT: Scrap Tie Disposal/ Northlander Project
WHY: In order to ensure a safe and reliable passenger train, ONTC is implementing a scrap tie disposal program. This program will clean up the right of way by picking up scrap ties, loading them up on rail cars, then unloading them in specific areas for trucks to load.
