Under the direction of the Senior Manager Operator - RRC, the Production Manager ensures production schedules are met and work is completed in accordance with customer specifications. 


  • Ensures employees work safely and efficiently in a positive work environment
  • Ensures that staff are properly trained in the duties that they perform
  • Responsible for the daily monitoring of problem areas during projects and takes action to correct same
  • Takes action to correct or change work processes and/or methods as required in order to meet the schedule and/or budget
  • Maintains daily contact with Project Managers to ensure production line tasks are assigned and completed as scheduled and corrective actions are taken to recover schedule slippage
  • Actively gather and contribute to continuous improvement/suggestions
  • Establish priorities (maintenance/projects)
  • Stay fully informed on production status and provide detailed and accurate information when required
  • Discuss daily operations with all supervisors
  • Edit and distribute shop map
  • Determine switching requirements and issue requests to operations
  • Tour shops continually looking for potential safety hazards and monitor workmanship
  • Meets with union representatives in dealing with collective agreement issues
  • Provides arbitration for conflicting production demands
  • Learn freight car repair methods and regulations including scheduling of such work


  • Grade 12 Ontario Secondary School (OSS) Graduation Diploma or General Educational Diploma (GED)
  • University degree/college diploma in engineering, manufacturing, business or related discipline
  • 7+ years’ experience in manufacturing or remanufacturing industry
  • Minimum of 5 years supervisory experience
  • Project management experience would be considered an asset
  • Thorough technical knowledge in rail passenger cars
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills (oral & written)
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills
  • Good working knowledge of computers including Microsoft Office
  • Ability and willingness to learn freight car repair methods and regulations
  • Committed to Company Health and Safety
  • Flexibility to spend additional time on the job beyond normal working hours
