ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT:

The Capital Projects Coordinator provides support for the purchase, installation, operation, maintenance, and modification of equipment and facilities within the Company, primarily Rail – Mechanical (all terminals) as well as the North Bay Remanufacturing and Repair Centre (RRC). 
 

MAJOR DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides capital project supervision, management and support for the purchase, installation, operation, maintenance, and modification of equipment and facilities within the Company
  • Develops and implements practical solutions for technical problems using a combination of knowledge, experience, and innovative thinking, often in unfamiliar, difficult, and time sensitive situations
  • Works closely with the Maintenance Supervisor to ensure that equipment and facilities are properly maintained minimizing risk and ensuring the health and safety of all employees
  • Researches, evaluates, prepares cost estimates, and makes recommendations for the purchase/installation of new equipment/systems/facilities and the modification/repair of existing equipment/systems/facilities
  • Works closely with shop personnel, supervisors, upper management, buyers, legal counsel, suppliers, customers, consultants, engineers, architects, and contractors to ensure that most cost effective, safe, and productive solutions are implemented
  • Assists with the implementation of the capital plan for facilities and equipment related projects
  • Monitors spending on capital projects, projects spending, and makes reports as required
  • Prepares necessary documents for RFQ’s, RFT’s, and RFP’s to acquire the services of consultants, engineers, architects, and outside contractors, to purchase new or modify equipment/systems/facilities
  • Works with legal counsel and buyers to develop contract documents and quote/tender projects following company policies and procedures 
  • Analyzes responses, makes recommendations, and prepares purchase requisitions and/or issues necessary contract documents
  • Prepares and supplies detailed packages for installation, modification, and operation/maintenance of equipment/systems/facilities
  • Purchases material to complete projects following company policies and procedures
  • Takes an active role in the health and safety of all employees and works closely with Joint Health & Safety Committees (JHSC) in North Bay and Cochrane
  • Provides support for the life and fire safety programs (sprinklers, fire alarms, portable extinguishers, fire hoses, and hydrants), the high voltage and low voltage electrical maintenance programs, and the maintenance of equipment, systems, facilities and structures
  • Co-ordinates, schedules, and monitors the work of outside contractors and suppliers
  • Maintains job files, shop machinery files, resource library, and product literature
  • Supplies information to shop personnel when requested
  • Attends seminars, trade shows, and conferences to upgrade skills and to keep informed of new products, services, and technologies

 

REQUIREMENTS:
 

  • Grade 12 Ontario Secondary School diploma (OSSD) or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • University degree or college diploma in the field of project management, facilities management, engineering, business or related field an asset
  • Previous industrial experience is a requirement
  • Experience with industrial computers, PLC’s, and process instrumentation is considered an asset
  • Working knowledge of relevant federal and provincial legislation including Ontario Building Code, National Building Code, Canada Labour Code, Fuel Oil Code, Gasoline Handling Act, Environmental Protection Act, Operating Engineers Act, and Boilers and Pressure Vessels Act
  • Experience with heavy industrial equipment including overhead cranes, lifting devices, drop tables, jacking equipment, forklifts, mobile cranes, elevating work platforms, grit blasting and painting equipment, part washers, all types of metalworking machines, industrial ventilation systems, heating systems, make-up air systems, air conditioning systems, and Powerhouses (steam boilers, air compressors, air dryers, and support equipment)
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills (oral & written)
  • Must be committed to Company Health and Safety
  • Experience with personal computers, mobile devices and applications including MS Office, Accounts Payable software, work order software, project management software, MS Excel, and AS400
  • Occasional travel to other ONTC terminals for project and maintenance work
  • Occasional travel to see vendors or customers
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD is considered an asset
  • Capable of working independently and under pressure with minimum guidance or supervision
