Under the direction and supervision of the Superintendent Rail Infrastructure Engineering, the Bridge and Track Engineering Assistant will assist in the development and managing of project administration framework and pre contract preparation work. The Bridge and Track Engineering Assistant will also be responsible to review the construction documents and advise on any instance where there is a breach of contractual obligations or non-compliance. On-site inspections of the projects will be completed throughout the project life by the Bridge and Track Engineering Assistant to assure contract standards are being met.


  • Help in developing and managing project administration framework; Pre contract preparation work
  • Demonstrate strong personal presence at all stages of projects
  • Interact with staff from relevant departments affected by the projects
  • Maintain project status reports
  • Review the Construction Contract documents to understand the obligations of the contractor as it pertains to design, budget and schedule
  • Make on-site inspections of the projects to assure the work in progress is being constructed to the standards set out in the contract documents and is on schedule
  • Responsible for project correspondence, file maintenance and cataloging drawings related to construction
  • Assist in the issuance of change orders, verification of payments
  • Advise on any instance where there is a breach of contractual obligations or are not fully complying with their contractual obligations
  • Assist in developing the annual bridge/track programs
  • Review various construction drawings, specifications and estimates
  • Assists in preparing estimates for capital and operating budgets and statistical reports
  • Contribute to a healthy and safe work environment through knowledge and awareness of and adherences to the company policies
  • Conduct Site safety inspections on a regular basis
  • Other duties as assigned


  • A strong interest in the Rail industry
  • Must possess a post-secondary degree or diploma in Civil Engineering or equivalent with (5) years related experience; previous experience in a railway environment will be considered an asset
  • Require disciplined management of priorities, good communication and accurate and timely information flow
  • Strong computer skills including excel, word and AutoCAD
  • Strong communication skills in English (written and oral)
  • A valid driver’s license
  • Able to travel over rough terrain, embankments and bridges
  • Able to work at heights
  • Able to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong organizational skills, accurate and detail orientated
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Able and willing to qualify in Canadian Rail Operating Rules
  • Available to travel frequently (average 50% of time out of the office, frequently away from home)
  • Bilingual (English and French) will be considered an asset
  • Committed to company health & safety
